Grand Canyon
Since I had planned to attend the annual wedding and portrait photographer's international convention in Las Vegas, I decided to arrive a little early and spend a few days at the Grand Canyon with my family and then drive down to Sedona for a balloon ride through the red rock cliffs. Unfortunately we had several inches of snow as we were driving to Sedona and were stalled for 2-1/2 hours on the intersate due to a 129 car pile-up. As a result of the weather, the interstate was closed and the balloon ride was also canceled so we headed back to the Grand Canyon and were fortunate to be able to stay at the historic "El Tovar" lodge 20 feet from the edge of the rim. The El Tovar typically books up about a year in advance but we were in luck due to a last minute cancellation. I'm actually glad we had to head back because the photographs I was able to capture of the canyon after the snowfall were breathtaking. Notice the one photograph of a condor flying in to land on the left and my son Grant on the right. It really gives you a good sense of scale as to the size of these beautiful birds.
